Day 24: James Bond Island Excursion
Today we went on our first island excursion. The highlight and main focus of the tour was visiting James Bond Island, but we also visited Hong Island, and some other island that I forgot the name of, whoops.
We were picked up by a minibus around 8am and had to pick up some more people, it was then a long ride (about 45 min) to the pier where we boarded a big two story boat. Even just being on the boat was an experience in itself, Thailand has hundreds of islands and it was amazing being out there and seeing way more than you can ever see just from sitting on the beach.
Our first stop was that island that I really can’t remember the name of LOL. It basically involved a lot of cave spelunking, we were there for about a half hour (only about 10 min of it though involved being in caves, omg I would freak out otherwise) luckily I didn’t encounter any bats.
Next was Hong Island, you don’t actually get out and walk around because there’s nothing to see on the actual island but they took us all on canoe rides for about a half hour around the island, it was very nice.
Finally, we were on our way to James Bond island and lunch was served on the boat on the way there. They had some nasty fish, fried pineapple, yummy fried chicken and a bunch of fried rice that tasted alright. There was also plenty of fruit, which reminds me, the fruit here is awesome, it tastes so good and its so cheap (I love pineapple) we just bought a crap load of fruit on the street for about $3.
Anyways, we arrive at the James Bond island and were free to go off and do whatever for 40 minutes. It was really cool to see. Nobody lives on the island or anything, you just go there for day trips.
Finally, they took us out in the middle of the ocean where you can get off the boat and swim around for about 45 min. Some people decided to jump off the top of the boat, which was really freakin high, and Joe decided to do it so I figured what the hell, I’ll do it too. It was scary for me because I have a thing about heights, but I didn’t think about it too much and just went for it… ahhh I screamed my head off because as I’m flying down I’m thinking “This was a bad idea” lol but it was tons of fun, I dont know if I’d do it again haha but I’m glad I did it.
We also did some more canoeing and then it was time to head back to the pier, where the tour guides put on a hilarious show for us (videos will be on Facebook) by the time we got back and got back to our hotel it was about 6:30pm, we were pretty worn out and just stayed in and watched TV… ironically enough, The Beach came on lol.. and then Hostel… NOT a movie I wanna see since I’ll be in Europe for another month before heading home lol.
