Day 10: Getting to Hong Kong
Well it was a huge pain in the ass getting to Hong Kong but I figured it would be. We had to wake up at like 6:30am to catch our flight and since it cost 60 pounds last time to take a taxi from the airport, and the shuttle didn’t run that early, we decided to take the subway. Took a long time but it was only 8 pounds total.
Our first flight was to Helsinki, Finland. It was about a 2 1/2 hour flight and unfortunately it was a 3 seat layout to an aisle, and Joe was stuck sitting next to a Chatty McChatterson while I preteneded to sleep near the window. Seriously, this guy would not shut up and was literally asking Joe any question you can think of during this flight. Now it’s one thing when you ask someone where they’re headed in the end (most of the people flying the Finland were changing planes, at least so I assume, because who wants to go to Finland) but when it gets to the point where the guy is asking where you grew up and where you live now and why did you move etc, it’s like OMG shut UP. Poor Joe.
So I assume that getting off the plane in Finland would be like anywhere else, you just exit the plane and step into the terminal and you’re in the airport. Well, this wasn’t the case at all. As we’re approaching Finland we notice that this entire place is literally just one big snowball. Seriously. It’s just TONS of snow, everywhere, as far as the eye can see. The plane landed, and even the airport was covered in it, piles of it were everywhere.. and it was snowing too of course. Well this airport sucked, and they made everyone actually climb down a flight of stairs and walk through the snow to get to a shuttle bus, because the planes land actually quite far from the actual airport. It was fun to step out in the snow for a second… but not too enjoyable since all my winter clothes were packed.
Finally our flight to Hong Kong was delayed because the plane was frozen and they had to de-ice it, lol.. it was about a 9 1/2 hour flight which was a longer flight than to London from the US. It wasn’t that bad though, we all had our own TV screens with free movies and stuff, I watched Edward Scissorhands, caught up on some Desperate Housewives and Niptuck on the laptop and then ended up drifting in and out of sleep for the rest of the flight.
